William Vincent Wheeler born in West Elkton, Ohio in 1845 was a soldier in the 9th Indiana Cavalry during the American Civil War. The Wheeler family moved to Indiana in 1853 where he was raised alongside his cousins with his uncle, Enos Pray, a well-known Quaker preacher. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the 9th Indiana Cavalry to fight in the Civil War. During his three years of service he took part in the battles of Spring Hill, Nashville, and Franklin, and traveled as far as south as Mississippi 〔“A Door of Hope” Wheeler Ministries.〕 In May, 1865, Wheeler was discharged from the Army and later moved back to Indianapolis in 1866 where he became a wagon delivery driver for the Layman-Carey Hardware Company. ==References==
